Moon Walking at Vasquez Rocks

Location overview

Captain's Log stardate 2018.19.8, we are on our way to Vasquez Rocks where we will meet with Megan Monroe, an up and coming designer. We hope our mission to be successful.

WELCOME TO VASQUEZ ROCKS home to the sets of the old Star Trek TV series. It is a natural rock formation located in the Sierra Pelona Mountains, northern Los Angeles County, California. The rocks have a natural redish/orange color. Stunning! Doesn't look like you're in California.

After some intimidating online reviews that said there was a big park ranger presence, I took some precautions. The last thing any photographer wants is to be stopped and asked if you have a permit.

We did make-up beforehand and then headed out to the location to meet our stylist/designer. When we arrived, I realized there was nothing to fear. So many photographers where there. The only area the park rangers reside in is the entrance. Head all the way to the back, and you're safe. No reflectors or lighting equipment! That one rule is posted.

Rachel- Photographer

"So pretty! The location is breath taking. Stick to the shady areas for the best shots. The sunlight is really harsh in this location. Warmth can always be added back in with photoshop. As a side note, gates close promptly at 7pm! Park rangers will honk, yell, and flash sirens at you until you leave."

Drastik Leigh- Model

"I would recommend this location!! It was beautiful. I would say shoot early am or evening hours. They close at 7pm. Bring comfy rock climbing shoes. Then bring someone along to help you in your heels. I went barefoot for some of the shoot and it was perfect. Also bring suncreen."

Megan Monroe- Fashion Designer/Stylist

"This location gave off the vibe that this fashionista is traveling somewhere through Mars. This collaboration was inspired by planets, the stars, and space."
